Italy, 1861. After centuries of division the Kingdom of Italy is finally born, but the young nation still faces a long and difficult road: wars, economic transformation, social struggles, dictatorship and the Resistance accompany Italians all the way to one of the most important dates in their history, 2 June 1946 — when, for the first time by universal suffrage, Italian men and women choose between Monarchy and Republic.
Caccia alla Repubblica (“Hunt for the Republic”) is a cooperative board game designed for the classroom. The teacher acts as Game Master and divides the players into Committees, which move along a timeline board across three Eras — Unification (1861–1914), Transition (1915–1945) and the Republic (1946–1948) — answering Knowledge Cards, facing the twists of history and discovering facts and anecdotes in the Historical Archive Cards.
Every Committee member has a role — the Patriot, the Courier, the Worker, the Secretary, the First Woman Voter — each with a task and a one-time special power. Every correct answer earns a Value Stamp on the Citizen's Passport: with at least five stamps the Committee is entitled to vote and joins the grand finale, a simulation of the institutional referendum with facsimile ballots, a ballot box and a count in class.
